MY CREATIVE PROCESS

Process

Due to COVID-19, my original project had to change slightly. Originally, I was going to choreograph my own piece in the style of old tap. However, I do not have a place to tap and choreograph at home, and all of the dance studios around me are closed for COVID-19.
With the guidance of Heather, I came up with an alternative project. I will be recreating a section of another dance that showcases an older tap style.

INSPIRATION

The Dance

The dance I will be doing is a clip from the Anything Goes Tony Awards 2011 Performance. Anything Goes was originally produced in 1934, and while this is a revival, the tap style mimics that of what it would have been in the 1930s. Skip to 2:15-2:45 for the snippet of the dance I will be performing.

WORK IN PROGRESS VIDEOS

This is my work in progress of learning the dance.

Process: Video

I taught myself the dance in smaller, easier to learn sections.

Process: Video

The second half of the dance had more intricate footwork. In order to master this, I slowed the video down to 0.75X speed to practice. I then was able to slowly work my way up to full speed while ensuring I had the footwork clean and crisp. Here is a video of a chunk of the second half at 0.75X speed.
